Case Study: G4S

G4S Cash Solutions employs over 6,300 people in the UK and operate a fleet of almost 2,000 vehicles. Its network of 42 branches and 10 cash centres enables the company to service customers across the UK.

Challenge

G4S was assessing its recruitment practices with a view to developing a fully online system to handle all processes from vacancy approval through to the successful candidate starting work. An impressive system that was effective, user friendly and aesthetically pleasing was required.

Solution

G4S selected Konetic Active to deliver and implement its eRecruitment Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to manage the recruitment processes for all new recruits into any role, including temporary, permanent, part-time and full-time staff. The company also uses the ATS to reap the benefits of online advertising of roles within the company, moving away from expensive and slow print advertising and costly recruitment agency fees. Branches of G4S were involved in the original system design, given full training on how to use the ATS, and provided with user guides and quick e-learning modules.

Joy Sewell at G4S, comments, “We have been able to make our vacancies more visible to internal candidates with as many as 50% of management vacancies now ­filled by internal talent. This compares to a level of nearer 30% in the past.”

The Result

The ability to source candidates directly rather than via traditional recruitment agencies has produced savings of around £1.2 million per year for G4S. Now all applications are made online, through completing an application form. The form captures essential candidate data, but also requires a declaration from the candidate about employment history and any criminal activity. Killer questions are used to quickly remove candidates that will not progress to the next stage. The ATS also o­ffers a basic competency test, so candidates that advance to interview have all passed a basic skills assessment.

Joy Sewell, “With the ease of online advertising on various job boards, our candidate reach is much wider, and offers real variety and choice for each role. Also, feedback sessions with recent operational recruits have shown that they like the way we mix the technology – with updates via email and text combined with others by phone from our recruiters. Applicants report that ours is one of the easier application systems they have used.”

A significant increase in recruitment at G4S over the last 18 months has confirmed the need for this online approach to recruitment. In fact, Joy Sewell believes that the company “would never have coped with these volumes without the Konetic Active system in place.”
